Horward qualified as a CA (SA) in 1983. He started his accounts career in 1973 and completed his articles at Wilkov Glass Arenson & Herbert in Roodepoort (1973 - 1978). Six years later, after two successful years at Kessel Feinstein, he was made a partner at Herbert & Trakman (now Octagon Chartered Accountants).

Clifford qualified as a CA (SA) at the University of the Witwatersrand in 1981. He completed his articles and training at Eliasov Wolf & Partners. In 1981, he joined the practice of Bloch Schaffer Engelberg & Partners as a partner. This practice amalgamated with Herbert & Trakman in 1985. The partnership changed its name to Octagon Chartered Accountants in 1997 which coincided with the firm's move to its own premises in Waverley, from where it continues to operate. He has served on school and golf committees and is a trustee of the Houghton Caddy Trust. He has recently started a networking and social investment initiative called the 10 20 30 Network.

Raymond has been in practice for over 20 years since he qualified as a CA (SA) in 1981. He completed his articles at Goldberg Jaffe and Pollack & Pollack.

Waldek obtained his B.Com (Acc) (Honours) degree from the University of Natal in 2003 and started his training contract at Ernst & Young where he gained experience in the motor, manufacturing, mining, and industrial sectors. Waldek joined Octagon Chartered Accountants in the last year of his training contract and became a partner in March 2006. Waldek was admitted to the Institute of Chartered Accountants in 2005. His diverse training and experience has given him an insight into various industries and an in-depth knowledge of the private equity market.

Toni completed his articles at Deloitte in 2006 and qualified as a CA in 2009. His passion for training and becoming a Chartered Accountant have been two goals that he has successfully achieved. He has been dedicated to the up skilling of future Chartered Accountants. He has been a lecturer at Midrand Graduate Institute for the past 5 years. He is currently a lecturer at Forbes Lever Baker. Toni joined Octagon in 2007 as the training and technical manager and worked his way to becoming partner in 2010. His strong technical competencies and passion for his work are successes that he brings to the Octagon motto of ensuring excellence.

Ashrauf studied at the University of Durban where he obtained his B.Com (Acc) degree. He thereafter studied through UNISA and obtained his B.Compt (Honours) degree. His career started at the Rand Daily Mail and Attorneys Kaftel & Partners. He completed his articles at Judelson, Arenstein, Engelberg & Partners. The company was later taken over by Bloch Schaffer Engelberg & Partners. The latter company then merged with Herbert & Trakman and became Octagon Chartered Accountants. He has 24 years' experience in accounting, auditing and tax.

Anthony obtained his B.Compt degree in Accounting from UNISA. He started his articles in 1982 at Saloner Goodman Fisher & Co and completed his articles at Herbert and Trakman in May 1983. Herbert and Trakman became known as Octagon Chartered Accountants in 1997. Anthony has enjoyed a successful 25 year career with Octagon Chartered Accountants.

Saville started his articles in 1975 with Jos Fine and then moved to Milner & Partners in 1983. In 1987 he joined Herbert & Trakman which changed its name in 1997 to Octagon.

Helena Kurland holds a Masters degree in Forensic Accountancy from the North-West University and has 15 years' auditing and accounting experience. She started her career as a bookkeeper at head office level and managed the accounts of four branches. Mrs Kurland later moved to the Rolling Stock Division of Dorbyl Limited where she managed the full accounting function.

She started her articles in 1999 and completed them at Octagon in 2003. She became audit manager and managed the large group company audits. Mrs Kurland pioneered the Internal Control Reviews for various clients and obtained in-depth knowledge of internal control reviews during this time. She was seconded to a forensic investigation firm where she was involved in a large-scale investigation of a government department. She obtained valuable practical experience in, among other things, forensic investigations, forensic audits, expert witnessing, and employee profiling. Mrs Kurland holds membership at two professional associations in South Africa, namely IIA (SA) and ACFE (SA). She is also registered with PSIRA.
